Initial ideas
This time I wanted to make something that firstly meets my interests (collage and textiles) and at the same time will be a functional object.

At first I thought about a textile collage
From a group video. Authors: Lisa Olshanskaya, Alexandra Ostrovskaya, Nadya Karpinskaya, Loy Oleinik, Kristina Pashkova, Masha Pervushina, Anna Plotnikova, Maria Motyleva, Katya Zhukova

Then I decided to think of textiles as something more functional, as a wearable piece of clothing.
I thought about creating a costume or a print for clothes.

I decided to move in the same direction.

Since my interest from the last sketchbook project was drawn to the traditional costume, I decided to apply a similar theme here as well.
From the Heaven sketchbook
As a piece of clothing, I decided to choose the form of a loose caftan, which in the future could be worn. I found an oversize pattern and a modern version. Chose linen fabric.

  • Technical drawing
  • Mockup with purchased fabric

Then I roughly estimated the density of the future composition, and also estimated an approximate palette of colours.

Then I did color tests on pieces of fabric and cut the fabric

In parallel, I was also looking for options for placing the picture and the composition itself.

In addition to the works from my sketchbook, the inspiration for the final sketch was the textile design of an armchair in a cafe and art on a city street.
Final sketch for painting on fabric:
Painting process:
In the final painting on the fabric, it was necessary to simplify the pattern and the number of elements, since the paint made the structure of the fabric heavier.

After preliminary stitching of the elements of the caftan,
the final result of the painting was obtained.
